Who we are
The mission of the Virginia Commonwealth University Controller’s Office is to provide accurate and timely financial services for the university faculty, staff, students and the public with an emphasis on integrity, customer service and quality. Units within the Controller’s Office are general accounting, cost analysis, fixed asset accountability and control, financial reporting and internal controls, foundation services, post award contract and grant administration, and tax compliance.
What we do
Financial reporting
Financial reporting serves as the primary liaison with the Auditor of Public Accounts during the annual audits and is responsible for:
- External financial reporting
- Internal control monitoring
- Data integrity of the Banner financial system
Grants & contracts accounting
Grants & contracts accounting oversees post-award administration of sponsored program awards. The principle objective is to:
- Provide financial reports to sponsors
- Interpret rules and regulations of the financial operation for the research community
- Act as a depository of federal and nonfederal funds
- Operate the university's effort reporting system
General accounting and fixed assets
Fixed assets accounting is responsible for:
- Identifying and keeping accurate records of university property and capital equipment through the Banner Fixed Asset System
- Administering the Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund
Cost analysis
Cost analysis is responsible for reporting and analytical services related to:
- Facilities and administrative costs
- Fringe benefits
- Surveys and support service rates
